Women

The United Kingdom ranks 31 out of 162 countries in the Gender Inequality Index, where a high rank equals high equality. Women should always be considered as a particularly vulnerable group though.

Children

The United Kingdom has a Workplace Index score of 2.2, a Marketplace Index score of 2.7 and a Community and Environment Index score of 1.2 in the Children’s Rights and Business Atlas, where countries receive scores between 0 and 10. A score closer to 0 reflects a need for basic children’s rights due diligence, while a higher score reflects a need for enhanced or heightened due diligence. Children should always be considered as a particularly vulnerable group though. 

Persons with Disabilities

Due to differences in data collection and definitions it is difficult to compare countries on disability prevalence rates. Persons with disabilities should always be considered as a particularly vulnerable group though.

Minorities and Indigenous Peoples

According to the World Directory of Minorities and Indigenous Peoples, the main minority groups in the United Kingdom are Indians (2.3 %), Pakistanis (1.9 %), Black British/African/Afro-Caribbean (3.0 %),  Bangladeshis (0.7 %) and Chinese (0.7 %), with other Asian British comprising an additional 1.4 %. Gypsy/Traveller/Irish Traveller make up 0.1 %. However, the total population of Roma (a category not used in the Census) and Travellers in the UK is estimated to be at least 200,000. The main minority religions are Muslims (4.4 %), Hindus (1.3 %), Sikhs (0.7 %), Jews (0.4 %) and Buddhists (0.4 %). Undocumented immigrants account for a significant part of the low-paid workforce. Some do not seek asylum, but those who do so and fail often remain in the country. Though their exact numbers are unknown, various estimates have suggested that the total undocumented population may exceed half a million individuals.

Migrant Workers​

According to the ILO Global Estimates on International Migrant Workers, migrant workers as a proportion of all workers is 18.4 % in the subregion Northern, Southern and Western Europe.
